Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Total of 8 river crossings, rocks are wet and slippery, poles helpful. "Sat" in the river just once!
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Castle Ravine Trail is not one of the most travelled trails and it was evident with some overgrown bushes taking over. Otherwise clear of debris except for one 30' section of compacted downed tree branches that required careful footing to cross.

Comments
Comments: Great and challenging way to summit Jefferson. Ascend Castle Trail for 1.3 mi to Israel Ridge Trail for 0.4 mi, then to Castle Ravine Trail. Steepest part is climbing the headwall for approx 0.7 miles, this is where there is a lot of loose rock. Most of us packed our poles and scrambled up some sections hand and foot. Lots of tourists at the summit having a great time. Descended via Castle Trail, up and around 20' castellated pillars of rock. Beautiful views, in and out of the clouds. The first 1.5 miles down are steep and rocky, then the trail becomes more gradual with much easier footing. Finish on the same 1.3 section that we started, with one river crossing. 10 miles RT.

Had a mini b'day party for Michael near the Castles. Thank you to Kathy, Michael, Susan, Kathryn and Bruce!
