Huge shout out to the group of four from VT currently putting in a new trail section on Beeline near the Beeline Cutoff! This is a beautiful new route and I was excited to be the very first hiker to traverse it!!
The listed trails are well marked with no significant blowdowns. |

It was a rainy trail day, today, but I didn’t mind. It was not cold and there was little wind. I hiked Bickford (many thanks to the landowners that allow the trail to pass through!) to Old Paugus. There is a scrambly section near the top of Old Paugus before Beeline, that has a big right turn to avoid the worst of the chaos. It was really clear to turn at that point. There are some more scrambly sections on Old Paugus below the summit, including one steep ledgy area with a really obvious and not-new bushwhack to the right. It was pouring rain so I took the bushwhack for safety!! I continued to the Paugus summit where I saw the inside of a cloud from the ledges. On my last trip up there (from the Lawrence Trail side) I remember impressive views of Mt Passaconaway.
I headed back down Beeline and met the super nice group of 4 as they were working on the new trail section. I very very much appreciate their hard work!!
I continued on Beeline and then took a right down Bolles. I maded a detour to do an out-and-back on the Beeline Cutoff Trail (I am “Hiking the White Mountain Guideâ€) and therefore said hi to the work crew again when I arrived at the intersection.
Then I headed back down Bolles and Bickford back to my car.
I really enjoy the serenity of the Sandwich Wilderness. |
