Trails
Trails: Webster Cliff Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, July 10, 2021
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Some folks parked at the foot of the road across the street (leading to Ripley Falls), we parked on the side of 302.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Bridged. On the way up there were a couple little streams which had dried to a trickle on the descent.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Excellent. Noticed two recently dispatched blow downs. Thank you. One suggestion - a sign is needed where the Saco River Trail leaves on the right.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw two. I would think twice about this one. Know your dog and respect his or her comfort level. One person turned around because some of the trail's steep, boulder filled sections were a bit much for a little dog. If you go, carry extra water, watch those pads, and watch the ledges.
Bugs
Bugs: Some black flies, some skeeters.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Someone dropped their Sawyer Squeeze, a thru hiker picked it up and will be checking with everyone he passes (northbound). I lost my trekking pole basket.

Comments
Comments: "The section of trail ascending to Mt. Webster is more difficult and tiring than the statistics would suggest, with a number of ledge scrambles interspersed through the ascent along the tops of the cliffs." WMG, p. 48. No truer words have ever been said. But it was beautiful. The descent was even better, because you get all those views until you're back in the woods again. Just face the fact that if you are short you may have issues and on the way down it is easier to just to use your butt.

We did this up to the first few ledges in early spring a few years ago, so we needed the section between there and the summit itself. was originally going to go to Jackson for July (for the grid I am not doing) and possibly to Mizpah for that section of trail. But this was too much. A big thank you to the nice lady who said I was an inspiration; encouraging words are always helpful. And speaking of encouraging words, it's that time of year again - best wishes to the NOBOs and SOBOs (especially the one going to Florida) we passed.
