The Ammo trail to Washington was spectacular in beauty today with mild temperatures, little wind, and slight overcast to help keep the sun bearable. I love this trail as it follows the river and there has been enough rain to make the waterfalls stand out yet all the crossings were still doable. The views are frequent as you go up, even before you get above treeline. Reaching the Lake of the Clouds hut is fairly quick, although not easy. A short trip over to Monroe as my husband needed that one and then back down to the hut and up Washington. We marveled at the 'lakes' which were full and surrounded by yellow wildflowers, then picked our way through the rocks up to the summit. That is probably the hardest part of the hike. We were shocked to see so few people on the trails and on the summit. We actually got a picture at the summit sign! My pet peeve are people who do not yield to uphill climbers, especially the trail runners. Only the Bonds and Zealand left for us. Then we start again? |
