Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Gate on Iron Mountain Road was open. There was ONE SPOT LEFT in the latter part of morning upon our arrival (making 4 vehicles in total). Thankfully, there is a second "overflow" small grassy lot 1/4 mile down the road (we passed it on the way to the main lot)- and there were 2 vehicles parked there upon our departure, but no other vehicles left in the main lot (at 3:30p).

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Severely eroded trail on the north side leading to the summit as well as random/extremely faded blazes as had known/anticipated. However, it was still a wonderful hike! Very easy to follow the trail on both sides (north side well marked with multiple cairns). So glad that we ventured down the south side to enjoy lunch on the South Cliffs. We opted to not visit the old iron mines on this trip today. The red sign south of the summit is faded and can no longer be read (we knew ahead of time from previous reports). Cliffs on the south were very easy to find (thank you cairns). 5 year old RE-NAMED this mountain's trail: "Booby Trap Trail!" When asked why, he replied "all of the roots and rocks!" He nailed it, if I do say so myself! haha
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Met two (leashed) beautiful dogs (Abby and Kota) who were descending as we were on our ascent.
Bugs
Bugs: Only one stubborn horsefly (?) was buzzing around us for over a 1/10 mile haha. There was only one spot just beyond the summit (where all of the granite is) where there were a bunch of black flies buzzing about- they were gone when we returned from the South Cliffs.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: YES! We actually brought the lost and found to JACKSON POLICE DEPARTMENT (had to have an officer called in to open the station to drop off the item): A PIECE OF JEWELRY. The office said to describe what it was on this forum. So, if you lost a beautiful piece of jewelry, go to Jackson Police Station :-)

Comments
Comments: Hands down, this is THE MOST BEAUTFUL trailhead of sorts that we have had the pleasure of enjoying in New Hampshire! The panoramic view of the Presidentials from the lower field upon the start of the trail: STUNNING! We also enjoyed the BEAUTIFUL view again from the OUTLOOK not far below the summit, and perched ourselves on the warm boulder taking it all in :-)
