Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Oh my gosh. I hiked during Hurricane Elsa. Everything was a water crossing!! There are two brook crossings on York Pond Trail, about 0.6 miles from the trailhead, that would have been impassable for me if I was not already soaked to the bone!! One was up to my knees, the other to my thighs. They felt safe to cross in that the water did not seem to be moving dangerously fast, so I just tromped right through.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Kilkenny Ridge Trail between Bunnell and York Pond has a lot of blowdowns and the ferns are growing in but it is wonderfully well marked!!!
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Did not see any!
Bugs
Bugs: Thankfully the rain held them off.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: None.

Comments
Comments: It was a fine day to hike to Cabot!! I was not the only one hiking in the rain - I saw a young man who was hiking the Cohos Trail with side trips to 4kers, and two young ladies who are just a few peaks from finishing their 48.
The trails are clearly well maintained and well marked - thank you!! The volume of water falling made most of the trails into streams, and that made for slow going because everything was really slippery.
I hiked up Bunnell, over Kilkenny Ridge to the Cabin. Then I took the Spring Spur, between the cabin and the summit (save yourself, just don’t. Unless you are Hiking the WMG and then you have to keep going and going to make sure that you don’t miss it!!). I headed up to the summit, and then back down Kilkenny to the Terrace Mtn Spur, which I also took. The view, today, was just the inside of a cloud. I continued down Kilkenny to York Pond and then took York Pond back to the trailhead.
I definitely recommend this route, even in the rain!! Overall a great morning!!
