Recommended Equipment

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: This may be the only place where you can cross the Connecticut River, on foot, via rock-hopping and stay dry. Nothing major, but plenty of wet areas, and many of them had bog bridges but some didn't.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The section on the border swath is extremely brushy (and thus very wet if it's raining). It's also very muddy in sections, and while some muddy parts have bog bridges, others don't. After leaving the swath, it was much the same way - lots of muddy areas, some with bog bridges and some without. I did note some materials for the construction of more bog bridges, so hopefully those will help. I don't remember any annoying blowdowns, and all three signs (one at the trailhead, one where the trail leaves the swath, and one at the loop junction) were in place.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Dogs are not allowed on this trail.
Bugs
Bugs: Due to the cool temperatures and rain, there were none.

Comments
Comments: When I was here two years ago in May, there was still three feet of snow on the trail once we left the border swath. This time, no snow, but lots of rain, and the trail was very wet. Since the swath is so brushy, my legs got very wet from this. The rocks on the swath were also very wet and slippery, so the one short rock scramble needed to be done carefully. This hike was fun and fairly easy, though caution was still required in spots to avoid sliding on slippery rocks or stepping into deep mud. The lake was beautiful in the cloudy, foggy weather.
