Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Got to lot on Rt. 171 (no sign, the lot is right before Sodom Road) at 9 am and there were at least three spots left. Only about 4 cars in lot when I returned at noon.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: one very minor crossing - low water - just stepped across on a few stones.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: trail is fine, the red markings start once you get onto the LRCT property, Bushes along the trail are starting to encroach the higher you go.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: saw two well behaved dogs, owners were great - short but nice talk with them about hike.
Bugs
Bugs: they are out, didn't bother me but my arms, legs and hat were sprayed when I started on the hike.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: just my trekking poles, which I foolishly left by the side of my car as I was leaving. Fortunately they were an older pair but still very serviceable. Feel free to use them, if you find them.

Comments
Comments: this was a good 3 hour hike that provided a workout as you advance up the trail. Only saw 2 people. Views weren't much because the sun never really came out. This trail would probably be fun in the winter on snow shoes - good incline but nothing crazy. You do have to be a little careful to stay on the correct trail. At 4/10ths of a mile from the parking area you come to a split - stay left for Mt. Shaw trail - if you go right you end up on what I think used to be called the Italian Trail and is now called Tate Mountain Trail, it is marked with three colors. If you go the wrong way and head right (which I did, 4 days ago), the Trail is nice and you get some good views.
