Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Both Franconia and Lincoln brooks could be safely crossed on rocks or by wading.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: 1 fresh step-over on Lincoln Woods trail. The ponds along Franconia Brk trail just beyond junct with Lincoln Brk trail have been refreshed by local beavers and have spilled into a short trail section. Muddy detour, but only a minor issue. Not like the major trail flooding there of a decade ago.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Met numerous dogs on Lincoln Woods & Franconia Brook trails.
Bugs
Bugs: Cool temps and a healthy breeze kept the biters & suckers away most of the day. Plenty of mosquito gauntlets along the Franconia Brk trail, however. Be prepared.

Comments
Comments: Did the loop around Owl's Head as a day hike. Clockwise. Trail was generally in good shape and easy to follow, even past the junct with the Owl's Head herd path. On my way up to the height of land NW of Owl's Head, took a pair of short detours to check out the lower and upper Lincoln Brook falls. Both are heard and glimpsed from the trail. A pair of 15' - 20' waterfall drops. The upper fall is more easily reached and can be walked to. Getting to the base of the lower fall requires more effort, and the banks are much steeper. I've only ever seen these falls marked in C.F. Belcher's Logging Railroads of the White Mountains. If you're out that way they are worth the effort. Also, at 13 Falls met Betsy, who was camping there, and shared an enjoyable conversation. A great day to be in the woods!
