Comments
Comments: From the Zealand Trailhead, I bushwhacked east until I hit FR192A and then followed it all the way to its junction with the A-Z Trail; overall this road is in great shape, and was very easy to follow. It seemed to continue past the A-Z Trail as well, so I kept following it until I reached a boggy area, where I started the bushwhack to the remote ponds on the west side of West Field. The woods along the way were outstanding and very open. I was keen on checking out the ponds as they don’t seem to be featured on many maps; the northern one is shallow and was not much to write home about, while the southern one is much larger and a real gem. From West Field’s summit to Whitewall, the woods were very dense until I hit the huge network of birch glades. After some time on Whitewall’s ledges, I descended via the incredibly sketchy western slide and then hooked up with the Ethan Pond Trail; overall a gorgeous day for these ponds and peaks.
