Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All crossings encountered were cross-able, no wet shoes today!
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Standard fare for wilderness trails. Great Gulf was actually easy to manage up to the Six Husbands connector. Six Husbands was easy enough to follow. Gulfside was immaculate top-tier hiking. Sphinx was a constant barrage of wet mossy rock, blow downs, mud, hiking on running water, and iffy trail markings...the gorgeous waterfalls and swimming holes made up for it.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Non-existent for the cool morning hike up, relentless and annoying for the afternoon hike out. Black flies ugh!

Comments
Comments: Hit the trail at 6am. Found Great Gulf trail in better shape that past trip reports would have you believe. Cruised up to the Six Husbands connector without difficulty, enjoying the beautiful river and strong spruce smells. Talked to a friendly fellow on his way to the Buttress trail. I knew Six Husbands had some steep ladders and a "sketchy ledge" but I don't think I anticipated the sheer physical nature of this trail. Lots of scrambling and heaving up and over. I loved it, but it kicked my butt! By the time I got up to the Jefferson snow field (alive and well) I was bushed! I followed Gulfside over to the Sphinx junction...absolutely gorgeous terrain and views. Dark skies to the west had me a little nervous, but thunder never materialized. Met a larger group of very friendly fellows from Burlington in the middle of their Presidential Traverse. They shared french toast with me. I hope they made it all the way! Hiking down Sphinx was a barrage of less than ideal hiking conditions (see above) but it was a gorgeous trail at the same time. Got back to the car, found that Dolly Copp was closed (UGH) and drove down to Jigger Johnson, cracked a beer and zoned out before the rain rolled through. Awesome day. Will definitely be returning to the Great Gulf to explore more in the future.
