Started whack @ 2400' and made a new line for the plateau W of summit. Woods were thick-ish all the way to the plateau. Woods wanted to push me E also. Once on the plateau the woods mercifully opened up a bit and it was a fairly easy walk E to the register. Original plan included S peak but between energy spent and possible incoming storms I decided against it.
Descending I had wanted to try the WSW ridge but I overshot it early and wended up in a cliff area. After pulling myself out of that predicament I was getting tired and frustrated - and the woods really wanted to push me down slope so I gave in and went with it, slotting myself into the stream leading into the North Fork. This turned out to be a most welcome descent: I weaved in and out of the stream when convenient and either one bank or the other allowed for minimal bashing. It brought a different kind of concentration (slippery wet rocks vs. constantly plowing through trees) but IMO it was worth it. Note the only reason I tried this descent was due to the easy crossing on the way in.
Quite a day in the woods with a reminder that Mother Nature always has the last laugh.
