Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Lots of crossing (2 or 3 which can be avoided on the way in by staying on the east side of the river for 0.4 miles give or take. But the river is not that high and rock hopping is doable.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails are wet and muddy in the flatter sections; and along the river they're rocky and slippery when wet but nothing horrible. Take extra socks.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: nada
Bugs
Bugs: Along the wetter areas they were ready if you stopped but if you're moving its fine. The top had the most black flies but the breeze kept them from being a nuisance.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: One cross on top of Isolation.

Comments
Comments: Beautiful day on top...stunning views of Washington and surrounding peaks. A couple of Forest Service employees showed up while Josh and I were chilling out and snacking. Someone had emailed them a picture of a wooden cross that was propped up at the summit. It wasn't propped up but we found it down in the scrub and the two women cut it into smaller pieces and hauled it out in their packs. I asked them what they do for fun and it wasn't hiking! One of them who had been working the longest had been up to Isolation at least 5 times and ditto on many of the other peaks and trails. Needless to say they were in very good shape and enjoyed their work! On another note, the Engine Hill Bushwhack is not very easily followed except in the winter but it goes through some beautiful white birch glades and would be a stunning trail in the winter. Not worth taking now simply because its very hard to find except the beginning and maybe a quarter-mile or so after that.
