| Date of Hike: |

| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The South Pond Recreation Area doesn't open until mid-June, so we had to park at the gate and hike an extra mile both ways. |
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
| Recommended Equipment: |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
All crossings can rock hopped without much difficulty. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Three or four major blowdowns with herd paths around them. Additional minor blowdowns also need attention. The last mile and a half to the summit are pretty overgrown in spots. |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
I wouldn't bring a dog into the Devil's Hopyard because of the footing. |
| Bugs: |
The bugs weren't too bad. |

| Comments: |
Was surprised by the locked gates, but still did the hike anyway. Very little sign of trail usage yet. Followed fresh moose prints and scat up most of the way, but never encountered the moose. The outlook at the summit is stunning and the side trip to the Devil's Hopyard is well worth the effort despite the very slippery footing there. |
