Holy moly! Trailhead at 5:30am. Noone there. It had rained the night before so the trail had slippery rocks and roots to navigate. I understood it wasn't going to be as easy as the 2.2 miles it is. It's the 2,300 ft of elevation gain. It's relentless from the start. There aren't any flat spots to rest at. It's steep and steeper in a few sections but they aren't too long. 100 yarfs and stop to catch my breath. The trail had plenty of muddy areas easily avoidable though but fun to stomp through. No views at the summit. Down the Lend-A-Hand trail to Zealnd Hut. Nice and easy. The falls were great. Down Zealnd trail to the car. Super easy walk from the Hut. And do yourself a favor and park at Zealand parking lot and walk the 1 mile back downhill! to Hale trailhead. You'll thank yourself after. |
