 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Mine was the only car at 5:45am at the Ripley Falls trailhead parking lot, but it was a mob scene when I returned at 10:50am. That new pavement is SWEET! |

 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |

 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Though I turned around at this point as per my plan, the water crossing at Thoreau Falls was definitely do-able with easy rock hopping. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
There are intermittent blowdowns, some of which need a hand saw or axe, some of which need a chainsaw. However there is also clear sign that an energetic person was recently out there with an axe (thank you for your hard work!! That’s a whole lot of wood chips!) If you want specific details about what I saw remaining to be removed, definitely message me on IG!! |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Didn’t see any but this is a great trail for dogs!! |
|
 | Bugs: |
Blissfully, none; probably due to the breeze plus the chilly temperatures. |
|
 | Lost and Found: |
I packed out someone’s abandoned Birkenstock shoe (wowza, it had seen better days). There was literally no other trash on the trail - yay!! |

I was planning a 4k footer on an exposed ridgeline but called an audible when I pulled out of my driveway in the pouring rain. I hiked Ethan Pond Trail out to Thoreau Falls and it was a terrific choice for today. The trail is in fantastic shape, including the vast majority of the extensive bog bridge system. It was intermittent light and heavy rain throughout the morning; there is absolutely no snow or ice visible anywhere along this route. I saw no people until I crossed paths with the group of 4 that camped at Ethan Pond last night. Then I saw a USFS gentlemen headed to Ethan Pond shelter. Once I got back below the Kedron Flume intersection, it was starting to be a conga line. If you like trillium, I would highly recommend this route; they started appearing about 0.5 miles before the shelter spur path, and then were consistent and plentiful the rest of the way!! |
