 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
There's a sign at the start of Groveway that asks hikers to park at the Town Hall. The Town Hall is just a short walk away, so we parked there. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |

|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
The crossing of Carlton Brook on Glenside was more difficult than it appeared, because the rocks that we had to step on were EXTREMELY slippery. Be very careful there. Luckily, the water isn't too deep, but you could easily get wet feet if you slipped off a rock into the water. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A couple blowdowns on Glenside. Also some mudpits on Glenside between the junction with Groveway and the water crossing - this section is narrow and rough and should be taken carefully. At the junction of Glenside and Diagonal, there is no sign for Glenside - it's the trail that heads downstream to parallel Carlton Brook. I reported this issue back in February, when Glenside was unbroken and unfollowable. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Sure. |
|
 | Bugs: |
We kept our headnets on for this one. Especially since this route stays close to Carlton Brook, it can get buggy here. |
|
 | Lost and Found: |
Nada. |

 | Comments: |
Back in February, we had planned to do these trails along with redlining a whole bunch of other trails on the lower slopes of Randolph. But since Glenside was unpacked, and the sign for it at one end was missing, we couldn't do these three trails at the time. We completed them this time. The Nepalese bridge was very nice. Glenside requires caution in spots due to its roughness and dropoffs next to the brook - that may be one reason why it wasn't packed out in the winter, it doesn't really seem like a very winter-friendly trail. Groveway and Bluffway were scenic and dry.
This whole area is a hidden gem - Mossy Glen is beautiful and the cascades were running fairly well today. Definitely a place to return to. |
