Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: There is parking off the shoulder of the Kancamagus Highway for a few cars if using Forest Road 511. Do not block the gate. We encountered WMNF mowing down the trail and blocking the gate would not have been cool.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: We took WMNF Forest Road 511 to mitigate any potential issues with crossing Downes Brook.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail in good condition with frequent yellow blazes. There remains trees crossing the trail near the surface that are easy to step over.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw three dogs of all sizes, including a very small one, that were not having an issue.
Bugs
Bugs: There were some but thankfully a slight breeze kept them away.

Comments
Comments: Beautiful almost summer like hike of this peak! The route started out relatively mellow and became quite a steep and rugged climb in the upper half, traveling through a variety of terrain. Summit offered excellent views from its mostly open summit, and from outlooks along the way including snowcapped Mt. Washington! It was nice crossing paths with a WMNF crew mowing down Forest Road 511 and a couple of others enjoying this stellar day.
