| Comments: |
Great day. The Stony Brook Trail has no views but it has some picturesque brooks and wildflowers. No snow on the Stony Brook Trail. Good views on the Carter-Moriah Trail's many open ledges. At first some snow off to the side of the Carter-Moriah Trail. Higher up in the evergreen sags between ledges there were pockets of mushy snow on the trail. Within about a quarter mile of the summit the monorail remnant was predominant with some intermittent bare surfaces. I was able to ride the rail with only a few minor postholes. I wore water proof boots and gaiters to keep the feet dry. Some water beneath the snow. The deepest posthole may have been 2+ feet deep near the Carter-Moriah and Kenduskeag trail junction. The Carter-Moriah Trail from the junction to the summit was a mix of snow and bare surface. Bare booted the entire hike.
Met a pair of hikers from Portsmouth & Manchester at the top and Chris H on the Moriah south ledges. |
