A cloudy but pleasant temperature day except for cold temps on the summit. Some views along the trail but the summit was socked in. Barebooted the entire ascent which was well groomed, snow free and mostly dry for the first 3 1/2 miles. Stretches of intermittent bare ground/rock and packed solid monorail for about 1/4 mile with alot of bare ground for traction to the sides of the monorail. Solid monorail for the final 3/4 mile with some icy patches but easily ascended. Post holing was minimal and didn't sink in more than ankle deep once or twice when I stepped off the monorail. We wore spikes for the descent of the upper 3/4 mile stretch of the monorail then barebooted out from there. |
