Parking/Access Road Notes: Rt 16 and Bridge and kiosk marking Mahoosuc Trail access. If coming from the south on Rt 16, look for VIP Tires and the bridge is just after that. 1.2 mile gravel road walk to official trailhead was marked at most intersections. Comments
Comments: A great day. The lower sections of trail were dry. Trail follows a brook with several pretty cascades. Some wet areas that were easily avoidable here. Trail turns to pine needle bed and starts to steepen, but great footing in this section. One old road crossing, look straight ahead for the cairn marking the trail, easy to spot. Trail turns to an eroded rocky area that was fairly wet/muddy. I had on regular trail runners and my feet stayed dry. I just made sure I paid attention to where my foot placement was and with the aid of poles to help me keep balance, I had no problems. Trail alternated between wet/dry the remainder of the way. View ledges were dry and spectacular. Trail between ledges and summit was more of the same wet/muddy/dry alternating. Overcast day made the view colors really pop. We only passed 3 groups all day. Did the Mascot Pond spur on our descent. Highly recommend, easy 0.2 to a lovely spot.
