Black Pond bushwhack, Liberty Brook Trail, bushwack to summit, down via Owl's Head Path, North Liberty Brook Trail, south Franconia Brook Tr and back to Lincoln Woods
Avoided the first two crossings on Liberty Brook Trail by using the Black Pond route. The third crossing was very complicated until I found a "natural" bridge. Almost turned back. The rest of the crossings going north required great care but were doable.
The bushwack towards Owl's Head was slow going. Very overgrowth. Somewhere along the trip a branch rip my tent bag (tied to the bottom of my backpack) and I lost the tent and poles (not the fly!) Silly and expensive mistake. Slept looking at the stars near the summit. Plenty of snow there with a bit of a monorail and ice left. Second day I took the path down, which was not too difficult, and the Liberty Brook Trail north. The north section of trail at times is bushwacking. Snow around the height of the land where I postholed several times. Slow moving. Only one person the whole trip with the exception around Franconia Falls. Beautiful weather. |
