Encounterd a bull moose on Pine Bend Brook Trail shortly before the junction of Scare Ridge Trail. He was heading down the trail in my direction and we seemed to notice each outher at the same time, stopping in our tracks about 20 feet apart. As I hollered at him I backed off the trail (and behind a couple of larger trees) as he took a few steps towards me down before heading off the trail to the east and down the slope. It is obvious he has been hanging around that area for a while, judging by all the tracks and moose stuff.
Pine Bend Brook Trail was mostly snow / ice free with evidence of the monorail above 3,500 ft. Used spikes just before 4k ft, snow is melting fast and snowshoes were not necessary.
