 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked in Flume visitor parking area in upper section near bike path/trailhead. First car there at 7AM and only one other vehicle and one park maintenance vehicle in entire lot at that time. Early morning showers and cloudy forecast kept people away today. Upon return at 9:30, one bike path dog/baby walker and one other visitor in lower parking area. Had entire trail and summit to myself from car to car. On Mt Pemi? |

 | Water Crossing Notes: |
First crossing is bridged; 6th crossing has 2 log planks that have seen better days, but held a 200+ pound hiker and full pack (bent, but didn't break. Crossings 2-5 were easy step overs with large flat rocks on either side (3) or 1 rock hop or walk through (shallow today). There were another 5-6 drainage areas that had various levels of running water, but nothing deeper than the midsoles on my Lone Peaks. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
There were no blow downs on the trail and footpath was relatively leaf-free. Wet areas had ample rocks for footholds or could bypass on drier part of trail. I did have minor difficulty on a couple of sharp turns, but guessed right today, so maybe a blaze or two on unmarked turns, but generally either well-blazed or fairly easy to determine correct path. Thank you to all trail maintainers for all your hard work. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Appears to be dog friendly. Most running water is on lower half (of which there is plenty), so on hot days may want to carry some extra to the summit. |
|
 | Bugs: |
Saw a few flying about today, but no landings or biting. It's only a matter of time folks, they're working up an appetite. |

My first trip to this mountain and almost stayed away due to the weather. However, I wanted to take advantage of the early spring hiking conditions and figured I could return if the views were clouded in. The views of the closer ranges and the valley were fine. I don't know how far one can see on a bluebird day, but I was satisfied with the reward for the effort and gratefully surprised at the solitude.
I think this would be a good family hike and even maybe a good first hike. There are some moderately steep sections, but there are also some switchbacks and flatter sections where you can catch your breath or even take a rest. Nothing technical or otherwise requiring special skills. So it offers some challenge, but not terribly difficult and relatively short. Lots of room at the broad ledgey summit. Just be careful that canines or young children avoid getting close to the edges near the drop offs. I hear that it is a 1500 foot drop straight down. |
