Still a winter hike!
First sign of monorail about 0.8 miles in. In the morning it was still icy enough that I needed microspikes to ascend a steep icy section @ about 1.1 miles. This became mashed potatoes by evening. Monorail is very patchy in exposed areas. But stable 30+ inches in wooded areas starting at stretch of forest leading to Gulf Peak. The ridge above treeline is a mix between exposed rock and packed snow near Glen Boulder / Davis path Jct. Above this towards Boott Spur are very exposed snow/ice fields. I brought a small sled with me and was able to sled about 1000 ft elevation loss on Davis path starting at treeline. Quite a boney ride but always fun! From here on out solid 30+ inch monorail but sometimes hard to spot from blowdown and snow drift. Found a few postholes that looked like bad days. I had no issues sticking to the monorail. Mt. Isolation is clear of all snow/ice and a very pleasant place to be. I decided not to attempt Davis as it looked like I might be breaking trail. |
