Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Very small rock hoppers, nothing to really write about.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All trails looked pretty good for spring, maybe a few smaller blowdowns but nothing that I found difficult. The erosion going up the BRT to Major is just sad, the trail is so wide but I know this is because it’s so insanely popular.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Loads of happy pups
Bugs
Bugs: Only a few flying around near the end of my hike. Starting at 41 degrees with a lovely beeeze made them a non issue. Too bad that’s not going to last long.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing

Comments
Comments: Today could’ve been one of my best days ever in this range for trail conditions and weather. Cool start around 41 degrees, cooling breeze, especially on Major with its open top. Very little mud to deal with, mostly dry trails and rocks. I decided I needed a hike that fit the ASAP requirements ( April Snow Avoidance Program). We have been getting some 4Ks in this month all requiring carrying snowshoes, spikes and heavy winter packs. This was amazing today, no bugs, a small pack and trail runners on my feet. This range is fantastic in early spring. I made a nice big loop today and never felt crowded with people( even though it’s NH school vacation). Only near Major did I see more than 3 people at a time. Lovely place for a workout and solitude. I forgot how much I enjoyed it here since we finished red lining the whole place last spring. Go get now while it’s not buggy!!!
