Comments
Comments: Well today was meant for pierce and ike....but last minute weather check once we see the blizzard we are driving through and the winds moving around the vehicle, we think otherwise. We head for hale and maybe some extra miles as we are training for an upcoming backpack trip. We start on the road with a little fresh snow. Once at the trailhead, there is still snow in the lot and we head up with bareboots. We stay stubborn with the fresh snow, sometimes 6” or more in some spots. We finally put spikes on in the switchbacks the pack trail was hidden and many off pack holes from previous people and some added by us. There had to be at least 8” fresh before hitting the summit. We decided to add the miles and head down lend a hand (wind was roaring all day). Once we got lower than some winds we put our snowshoes on as it was ankle breaking with spikes in the fresh and non packed trail of snow. This trail was a mess.... nothing packed, very wet in a lot of spots and of course those undersnow snowshoe grabbers....bog bridges. We made it to the hut and wow was a difference. We actually saw people tracks. I decided to bareboot it and suzanne went for spikes. Very soon after the hut the bare rocks showed themselves and her spikes came off as well. The rest of the trail was either dry. Wet with water, or a monorail that was s few inches and still annoying, welcome to spring! The road was clear when we headed back. Fun company, terrible conditions!
