Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Well kiss my grits, Bear Notch Road opened last night. Here I was thinking I could emulate Bo Duke in the General Lee and get myself airborne on the camel hump frost heaves this mornin'. Womp womp. DOT has done an amazing job on this road and it is fresh pavement. Driving a Mini, I did bend the rules a bit to rule the bends.... Signal Ridge is still in its winter lot. USFS/DOT has dropped a fresh coat of gravel along a major stretch of the road. Also - some jokester wrapped my car in crime scene tape upon return. I am channeling my inner Liam Neeson here - "I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want - But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills that will make it a nightmare for you" I will get you back, some day.

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: We opted for the old 'abandoned' route that still is widly used. Left at the big fork. The three crossings where hoppable, the first one, depending on your level of heroics or gymanstics, you are liable to get wet on
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Dan and I took out about a dozen blowdowns and cleaned about the same in waterbars
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Several doggoes out enjoying the day. Lots of families out walking the road.
Bugs
Bugs: So I did some research, its dubbed "Common Spring Moth" or to sound fancy, Heliomata cycladata, made its first apperance today. Was awesome to see today, but in a few weeks i'll be cursing your common (or as the millenials say - 'basic') existance as you dive bomb my headlamp at 4am.

Comments
Comments: A FINE day in the forest today! Prime conditions for us early birds on the way in atleast. Trail is to bare ground until about 2650, delightful mash potato till about 3100, then firms up until you get around the Alpine Zone, from there it goes back to lumpy mash potatoes you'd go to war about at Thanksgiving. Had the tower to ourselves for quite a bit. Lots of familiar friends (peaks) out today despite the haze. It should be noted the greyjays have banded together and its pretty similar to a scene in Hitchcock's "The Birds." We lived to warn others. Coming down was a quite a bit of cheap thrills and uncontrolled slides on slush. Snow line crept up a bit with the warm sun. All in all a fine April redo for the grid :)
