| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parking was easy - I was the only one there at 7:30am. 2 other cars on return at 1pm. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow - Wet/Sticky, Mud - Significant, Snow - Spring Snow, Snow/Ice - Postholes |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Drake's Brook is flowing pretty well and crossing is doable, but needs attention and careful foot placement. Rocks were wet and slippery today, but no ice. I slipped in on the ascent, but stayed dry on descent. Bring a change of socks :) |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A few minor blowdowns, all were easily navigable except the biggest one found on the first third of Sandwich Mountain Trail. It was 2 trees fallen together and at a stretch where the trail was slippery. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
My pup had a blast. Saw no others but plenty of paw prints indicating that pups use this trail regularly. |
|
| Bugs: |
A few in the air, none biting. |
|
| Lost and Found: |
Nothing |

| Comments: |
Any day in the woods is a good day! The pup and I had a great time.
Trail snow-cover is still significant, though depth is wayyyy down. Atop Sandwich, there's several inches still. No discernible monorail, really; just a bunch of slick, slippy snow. I used minor traction and that helped on descent; probably saved me some energy on ascent too. Watch for postholing near Sandwich summit, otherwise it's just 2-4 inches left and plenty of places lower down where the ground is bare. Mud is very present and also mostly avoidable.
Reminder: wet feet - bring a change of socks :) |
