Did an out-an-back to the Wildcats. Consistent snow started about 1/3 up the ski trails where I put on snowshoes. I took them off briefly to ascend the bare rocky trail to Wildcat D and then put them back on.
Snow on the ridge was very soft but snowshoes supported me. Unfortunately there was a solo hiker ahead of me who also was doing an out-and-back wearing microspikes, putting in deep postholes with each step. I tried to smooth over the trail, but she left the entire ridge in grievous condition. I wore snowshoes back down the ski trails to where the snow stopped. There were a few bare rocky spots over C peak, but not enough to take the snowshoes off. Cute and hungry gray jays at Wildcat A. |
