I wasn't going to post this report since Chris covered the same mountains with a very detailed report. I decided to go ahead anyway because I think we were a couple hours later than him and we came down the Jewell trail rather than Caps Ridge. We did use our snowshoes both going up Ammo (from Gem pool to the hut) and down Jewell (the middle section). We could have stucks with spikes but snow was soft enough that we preferred the snowshoes. Like Chris, we used spikes from the hut to Washington and Barebooted the rest of the ridge. It was slower than normal due to the need to rock hop around numerous ice patches. There were several slush puddles that were hard to avoid and a few deep puddles. But overall not bad for this time of year. |
