I would deem snowshoe conditions on (and obviously off) trail, even though most are not using them. Snow cover is complete and there were some new drifts up high, which were broken by barebooters.
I bushwhacked from Avalon to Wilard. From the Avalon Spur, I took the trail down for about a tenth and then slabbed towards the col. At the col, I walked a short distance up the drainage and then bushwhacked to the highpoint of Wilard and on to the view point. Snow was supportive the entire way. I'd done this bushwhack before and enjoyed it much more today with deep, supportive snow. Snowshoes were an obvious must. |
