Comments
Comments: Started early at 6:30am. Heading up was firm and solid where there was snow. Heading down, around 10am, the sun was out and the snow softened significantly, resulting in some post-holing, but not enough for snowshoes in my opinion.
First 1.5 miles was bare-booted with a combination of dry trail, wet trail and slush. Then it got to be winter conditions with a good monorail. Heading up was fast and easy. The Engine Brook Bushwack was easy to find and easy to follow. It seemed like all the tracks followed this way. The water crossings were easy to hop over. The larger one towards the top had a good solid snow bridge over it. I think it will hold through the weekend. Even if it doesn't, the water levels were not high so I think it's easy to find another crossing if the bridge collapsed.
On the way down the sun was out and the snow softened real quick. I did not put on snowshoes but there were a few spots that I post holed. If it was any later in the day I would have needed to put them on.
