Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All 14 crossings that we had today were easily rock hoppable.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: "Up to a $5000 fine and/or 6 months in jail for cutting brush, blazing, or removing blowdowns" along the Passaconaway Slide Tr. It's use is allowed but it is not to be maintained. The rck slabs of the slide were slick in spots but easy to manage today. Except for the upper section when the trail is in the trees, its grade is less than Flume Slide or North Tripyramid Slide. The rest of the trails were in good shape with only a few blowdowns.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Marlie did good on the slide although I had to warn her to keep away from the steeps. There was no water along the Rollins Tr so plan accordingly.
Bugs
Bugs: An annoying mix of mosquitoes, knats, and deer flies along the trails. At the south ledges of Whiteface we were ovecome with black flies.

Comments
Comments: The abandoned Passaconaway Slide Tr was an awesome new route for me to the summit. I will definately return. It's very easy to find if you are looking for it and easy to follow. Many old blazes and a lightly worn treadway in the trees. The wet slabs are slick. I slipped once and slid six feet before catching my foot in a crack. I would not reccomend this on a rainy or below freezing day. 2200' up in 2 miles from Downes Brook Tr to Passaconaway's summit.

We met a trail monitor along the Rollins Tr and had both summits to ourselves for a little while. Congrats to an older couple and their corgie who finished their 4ks on Mt Whiteface.
