Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Of the northern and western routes to Jefferson, Jewel/Gulfside is probably the best for dogs, even though it's significantly longer than Caps Ridge. There are no scrambles, and the grade isn't steep by Presi standards. However -- and this is a big however -- right now there is no reliable water between the crossing of Clay Brook at 2,900 feet on the Jewel Trail and Greenough Spring on the Gulfside Trail, and none again from the spring to the top of Jeff, so carry lots and lots of extra. We did, and we used every drop.

This was a great hike for Polly (NH4K #32) and Tuckerman (#35), who due to a total lack of other dogs were the stars of the trail today.
Bugs
Bugs: A few no-see-ums and flies down low. If there were bugs up high, the wind kept them away.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: A cotton t-shirt, gray, had been left on a tree branch at about 3,600-foot elevation on the Jewel Trail and was still there when we descended.

Comments
Comments: Great hike in fine, if somewhat humid (down low) and windy (up high) weather. The wind in Sphinx Col was very strong, and there was a pretty good breeze overall up high, but it kept things cool. Photos at link below.
