Took advantage of recent intel from my fellow hiking buddies about the trail conditions. Spikes were all we needed today. Trail was hard packed mostly. There is a monorail forming on a lot of the loop and as the day went on and the beautiful sun did it’s thing, spring snow started to stick to our spikes but no postholing by us. There are some old frozen ones to watch out for. The route down Imp trail had its share of rotting snow as we got lower and we eventually took off our spikes to not ruin them on the rocks. We searched for the Easter bunny but only found two pine martens. Only about 6 other hikers seen all day. Super quiet day with incredible views all day of the Presidentials, even when only seen through the trees. View from mount Hight was worth the side trip again too. |
