 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We were car number 4 at 9:30 and there was only one other one there when we got back. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Ice - Black, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable) |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
The big crossing on the Weetamoo was a little tricky due to the high water. There’s a log across most of it, but it had ice on it so it was a little slippery. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Nickerson Ledge Trail could use a little love. Lots of blowdowns including one that was tricky to get around. A few blowdowns elsewhere. One big one over near Jim Liberty Cabin. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Chocorua’s a tricky one for dogs which may be why we didn’t see any. |

 | Comments: |
The trails are mostly dry below about 1800 feet or so, with intermittent stable monorail that is rapidly fading. Due to the colder temps today, the snow above 1800 feet had frozen mostly solid so there was no fear of postholing. Up along the summit ledges was mostly dry with patches of ice until closer to Chocorua where is got a bit more icy. We barebooted until just below the Chocorua summit when we actually put on trail crampons. We then switched to micros on Liberty and they stayed on until the car (partly out of laziness). Snowshoes never left the trunk. Gorgeous day to be up there but the wind started to really pick up by the time we made the summit of Chocorua. |
