Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks South Twin Mountain, Mt. Guyot, NH
Trails
Trails: Gale River Trail, Garfield Ridge Trail, Twinway
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, July 16, 2011
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parking area at the trailhead had several spaces when I arrived, around 8 am, but when I left around 3:50 it was overflowing. The drive along Gale River Rd from Rt 3 is rather well marked at this point, making the directions in the AMC guide seem a little superfluous, but it's always good to have a back up.

Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw several that seemed to be having a good time. Keep in mind that once off of the Gale River Tr, there's no reliable water.
Bugs
Bugs: Didn't see mosquitoes. Some sort of large fly was really bothersome on South Twin.

Comments
Comments: Having driven more than 1.5 hrs, I realized that I had forgotten my camera! MAJOR bummer (esp. since part of my purpose in hiking was to get pictures from South Twin). I'm very grateful to a hiker who took my picture on South Twin and offered to send it along. I'm glad I'm not totally empty handed.

The views from South Twin were amazing, and there seemed to be a constant population of hikers on that summit. The hike up the cone wasn't as bad as I had remembered. I'll certainly be going back for more, the question is when! There were also a lot of hikers on the Twinway, but that's not too surprising.

It was a good day to be out.
