Comments: Did an old standby today on my birthday. Since finishing the SSW48 two weeks ago I have no desire to summit anything! At least Tuckerman is a good fitness hike. Beautiful day with intense sun. Started out in micro spikes and the trail was pretty firm all the way to the shelter. The first pitch above the shelter was getting soft but there were solid footprints that made it easy to ascend. The Bowl was still almost totally covered and there were about 30 skiers out today, most heading up Left Gully where snow was slightly firmer. The trail had about 3-6" of mashed potatoes over a solid base on the way down so I switched to crampons for the descent. From the shelter to just above Boott Spur jct the trail firmed up nicely as the shade took over. Turned around just above the Boott Spur sign and scooted back up to the shelter just to add some length to a pleasant day. Passed at least 20 more skiers heading up into The Bowl for a late afternoon run. We need an April snowstorm to keep winter trail conditions intact!
