Comments
Comments: Hiked up starting around 10:30 - snow was well-packed and still frozen with the cooler temps overnight and in to the morning. Snowed a bit as we started, very picturesque! The trail was VERY narrow in some spots which made stepping aside to let others pass a game of “Will I posthole or not?”. Fell through up to our thighs at some points. Once we got up top, there was still fresh snow on the trees from the night before, but everything that fell seemed to have melted and become a slushy mess. With the sun coming out after we left the summit (socked in the whole time we were there patiently waiting for the cloud to break up :( ) everything became a mashed potato mess. We wore spikes the whole time, but could have transitioned to snowshoes on the way down to give our knees some love. Basically slip sliding off the packed trail into the soft shoulders the whole way down. Shocked at how quick the snow was melting at the base of the trail from morning to late afternoon. Definitely will be a pretty messy trail for a while. Had a great day nonetheless, everyone was so happy to be squeezing in some hiking between the rainy days!
