| Comments: |
Trail is in great shape; in early morning, it was hard-packed all the way up, with crunchy surface (and a few icy spots) up to about 3,700', then a powdery (but firm) surface from there to the Carriage Rd. Junction. Great conditions for microspikes. Snow depth at junction approx 48-55". From there to the summit was crunchy or icy. On the summit cone most snow has blown or melted away, leaving a thin layer of hardpack or ice on the trail - just enough to keep your microspikes on all the way to the top.
In late morning, 10-11am as I was descending through lower elevations, the trail surface became softer and wetter – so hikers at mid-day or afternoon should expect softer conditions. |
