Although it was sunny with temps in the 50s, the strong winds kept the solid, hard-packed trail a pleasure to hike on. There were a few short spots with snow drifts but not enough to merit putting on snowshoes. Very windy above treeline. Snow stayed hard packed until the descent below treeline in the afternoon. Softest spots were where the sun had touched the trail through tree openings which occasionally caused the snow to ball up a bit on the spikes. Dont think conditions will be much different Sunday. Spikes all the way! |
