Comments
Comments: Early morning start to prevent snowshoe postholing from afternoon temps. South section of Greeley Ponds Trail is a complete mess of postholes, but smoothes out a little after the junction with Goodrich Rock Trail. From High Camp I continued down the herd path and picked up the logging road network that ascends the S ridge of East Osceola; I ascended these roads to 3000ft and then bushwhacked up to the ridge crest through dense growth, passing through the occasional stunted spruce stand which offered good views back to Painted Cliff. Traveling north along the ridge, I eventually reached the objective, an open patch of forest overlooking the Osceola Brook valley. From here almost every aspect of the ravine is visible, including the large slide; top of SW slide is also visible. I took a different route for the return and it made all the difference, basically open glades all the way back to the logging road network.
