Beautiful first day of spring. We started at 7:20 Am and had hard fast microspike conditions to start. We put on the snowshoes when the climb to north Hancock began, who doesn’t love heel lifts? We continued across the ridge wearing the shoes, IMO the best choice. Some drifting up there with powder snow. Nice to have had beautiful sun to do a long summit break at north Hancock overlook. We decided to use our full crampons to descend south. Knowing it’s popular butt sliding route, we expected a solid track. It was still good for those who brought sleds though. Some powder still. Quick hike out on spring snow to the car. Rock solid postholes from past warm days to watch out for though. |
