Trail has old postholes almost the entire way but they are avoidable - just pay attention you don't fall into any. We wore our Hillsounds and gave the snowshoes a free ride today-first time all winter though. Wind was crazy but going up to North it was blocked and the sun was incredible. However, made the snow soft and slushy. Crazy steep and did stop a couple times to talk about whether or not to switch to snowshoes just to get the advantage of our lifts more than anything. Between North and South there was more drifting snow. Wind increased quite a bit at South. Views to the prezis were great as well as into the pemi and up to Franconia Ridge. Love this hike in winter! Epic butt sledding down from south...thought I was in a toboggan the trail was so perfectly groomed for this! Watch out for the trees though - you really get cooking! |
