Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Hank Williams was a trooper. He is currently leashed because he scratches up his face due to allergies so the hikes take us longer than usual but we are still thrilled to be up and out. He did well going up the steep part of Airline and the exposed parts above King Ravine to the summit. His claws act like mini crampons and the low center of gravity also helps. I make him hike behind me a lot as it deters pulling. I didn't feel like this hike was beyond a good trail dog at all. Many thanks to all who pet Hank Williams as he loves the attention!

Comments
Comments: So happy we were out on this bluebird day! We met 3 friends above treeline, saw some festive celebrators of St Pat's Day and had a Pepper sighting in the parking lot. Airline up with bareboots then I changed to trail crampons once the snow hardened up and was very happy to have them going up the steep section of pines on Airline. Hank had zero issues with Airline other than being restricted to a leash. The summit was superb and had a nice chat with a fellow hiker. Slight breeze, enough to put on my puffy so I could have lunch with a view towards Washington. We kinda lost the trail on our decent to Gulfside and tromped across the snow fields which were very supportive but kept close to the rocks just in case we started to slide. Bareboots again when the snow softened as snow was balling up and the trail was very hard packed, no postholing. Changed back to trail crampons above treeline and kept them on the rest of the day. Descending on Valley Way sidewalk I could have gone with just boots or snowshoes but was too lazy and wasn't postholing. It was very nice to have company on the descent down Valley Way. It made the time fly by.
