Comments
Comments: In the spirit of “things can change quickly in the White Mountains,” this morning this trail was not amenable to the microspikes that others used recently. There are 6 significant stretches of ice (two of them make you scratch your head, for a second, looking for the best footholds), and even the sections in between these are pretty slippery. All of this, of course, is in the first mile. I didn’t see anyone until the 6 super-nice folks I saw as I was headed back down and all of them either wore snowshoes or crampons. (Two had skis on their packs!).
Once you get to the view area, the footing is good. I wore my snowshoes for the whole hike; I did the loop with the Rim Trail and you definitely needed them on that little section, as it is seldom used.
Lots of bunny tracks, but no bunnies showed themselves!!
