Wow, could not ask for better conditions. The best day I have seen in the whites all year. I met some excellent people on the peak as well ask had a great conversation with a man in the parking lot about risk management and being prepared. Its always refreshing to talk to another solo hiker who really understands risk mitigation and how easy it is in the winter to get into a sticky situation.
Trail is perfectly packed, I used micros the whole way and ever saw few people bare booting, but you should have some type of spiky footing one you start really gaining elevation.
I had some great butt sliding on my way down (one stretch i slide for over a full minute) and went from the top of lafayette to the parking lot in 1.5 hours. (don't worry I went slow and made sure to shout before to make sure no one was coming)
