The first couple of miles coming up the Mt Kinsman trail was definitely perfect microspikes snow. We switched to snowshoes after about 3 miles (3200 ft elevation) a little before the North peak and it was a very good decision. Saw some people managing in microspikes but it was less than ideal - some postholes but nothing terrible. Overall a well packed trail all the way from that point to the South peak. A little bit cloudy early on so the views weren’t visible til later, but the trail itself provided all the views one could ask for. Absolutely beautiful hike. We saw several groups coming through and the parking lot was surprisingly busy on the way out at about 3pm. Lots of them had little sleds for sliding down the trail - definitelt a smart move and looked like a lot of fun. |
