Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Winter lot was nicely plowed and sanded. The road walk itself this morning was quite pleasant as it was freshly groomed. It was nice on the way out too - lots of hang tens and waves from really friendly and respectful snow machine groups. Often waving to their groups and others to slow down.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow - Drifts, Snow/Ice - Postholes
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: We opted for the abandoned version of Signal Ridge, so three baby crossings, and the fourth is completely snow covered
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A trio of blowdowns on SRT, between 2600-3100. An overzealous person might be able to take them out with a hand saw, but one is likely axe worthy
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: No doggoes out today
Bugs
Bugs: The greyjays have started to organize. A gang of five have banded together and working to dive bombing for your food.

Comments
Comments: A FINE and chilly day in the forest. We certainly picked the right peak today. Only say 8 people all day - most wearing shoes. The trail is in fine shape, aside from some soft areas in the hardwood glades due to abundant sunshine and drifting. I wore spikes for the road walk and the first 2 miles of Signal Ridge, when it started to go uphill, I put on my shoes and they stayed on until I got back to the summer lot. The hike up to Signal Ridge is always so scenic, beautiful and short... but the views where certainly worth it. Lots of peaks in the clouds today but still stunning views to be had in all directions. A stiff breeze kept us from lingerling long. If you need Carrigain for Winter, or March, its ripe for speed right now. WEAR YOUR SNOWSHOES. (Looks like one lone XC skier went out possibly to/thru Carrigain Notch if you needed Vose. Also Nancy had 5 cars at it this morning.
